Lauren Demosthenes, MD
Biography
Lauren Demosthenes, MD, Prisma Health-Upstate and University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville (UofSCSOMG), is Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and practiced general ob-gyn and participated in resident and medical student education for over 20 years. Dr. Demosthenes is the current coordinator of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) education at the UofSCSOMG and Director of Track of Distinction in High Value Care, Performance Improvement and Population Health where SUD is the population health issue for the Track. She also leads the UofSCSOMG curricular changes around pain management and SUD, which were highlighted at the AAMC Dean’s Ignite Session in March 2019. She is a member of the High Value Practice Academic Alliance (HVPAA)/American Hospital Association (AHA) opioid stewardship leadership team and will serve as a mentor for teams across the country in a year-long opioid stewardship program which will be launched at the annual HVPAA meeting in November 2019. Dr. Demosthenes has a buprenorphine waiver. Dr. Demosthenes is the project director of the medical school collaborative teaching section of Project EMPOWER (Engaging Medicine Providers on Ways to Enhance Recovery).
