John Coffin is the Executive Director of Shoreline Behavioral Health Services. He came to Shoreline in 2007 and has been in leadership positions in behavioral health for over 30 years. His background spans work in child welfare, mental health, crisis evaluation and the treatment and prevention of substance use disorders.
Mr. Coffin has a bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare from the University of Southern Maine and a master’s degree in Healthcare Policy and Management from the Edmund S. Muskie School of Public Service. While at Shoreline he has served on multiple Horry County community boards and as Vice President and President of the Behavioral Health Services Association of South Carolina.
In the ten years that Mr. Coffin has been at Shoreline he has transitioned the agency from outdated modes of treatment to an organization founded on evidence-based practice and has overseen the transformation of the agency to a data driven, multi-faceted healthcare organization that has integrated primary care, behavioral health and peer support services.
The development of expertise in treating whole families, combined with the formation of multi-agency collaborations in the community, has positioned Shoreline to respond efficiently and effectively to the opioid public health emergency in Horry County.
