Biography

Christine Martin serves as the president of the South Carolina Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (SCATOD) and represents South Carolina on the board for the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD). Christine has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Clemson University and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Appalachian State University. She a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) and Certified Addictions Counselor (CACII) in the state of South Carolina. She has over 12 years’ experience in the field of opioid treatment and in private therapy practice. She started in the field as a counselor at an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) working with persons with severe opioid use disorders. Her current position is as the Director of Clinical Services for Center for Behavioral Health, an organization with 22 OTPs throughout the US. Her work involves training, development and initiating change with a goal to enhance services and improve treatment outcomes. She lives and works in Charleston, SC where she maintains involvement in the daily operations of Center for Behavioral Health’s OTP in North Charleston. For several years, Christine worked as a surveyor for CARF International (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), conducting accreditation surveys of OTPs throughout the country. She is also involved in volunteer work at the community and state level, working with recovery organizations and agencies to promote recovery oriented systems, reduce stigma and improve access.
