Candice Lively, Esquire, is the Deputy Solicitor at 6th Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Chester County. She was formally the Prosecution and Law Enforcement Senior Resource Attorney for the Children’s Law Center, School of Law, University of South Carolina. She received her Juris Doctor from The University of South Carolina, School of Law in 1996. She currently trains and provides resources to prosecutors and law enforcement throughout the state on issues involving child abuse. She is also the adjunct professor for the University of South Carolina School of Law class Children in the Courts. She was the state coordinator for the ChildFirst forensic interview program. Prior to joining the Children’s Law Center, she was a Senior Assistant Solicitor with the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Conway, South Carolina. As a prosecutor, she supervised the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault special victim’s team. She prosecuted sexual assaults and cases involving severe child abuse and fatalities. She was a member of the Horry and Georgetown Counties’ multidisciplinary teams focusing on the investigation of child maltreatment. She attended multiple intensive trainings with the NDAA on the issues of child abuse and abusive head trauma. She was trained and certified by the NCPTC as a forensic interviewer in 2009 through the ChildFirst program in Columbia, S.C. She presented at trainings and continuing legal education seminars on topics focusing on abusive head trauma and child fatalities, special child victim issues, trial preparation and testimony, and prosecution of child abuse cases. Before joining the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Ms. Lively worked in private practice and handled family court cases and juvenile appointments. She was a Guardian ad Litem and also appointed to represent indigent felony defendants in circuit court.
