Mental Health First Aid: Training Your Community To Be First Responders in the Opioid Crisis

SC Thrive leads South Carolinians to stability by providing innovative and efficient access to quality of life resources. This session on Mental Health First Aid: Training Your Community To Be First Responders in the Opioid Crisis is a workshop that helps community members identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Just as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training helps a layperson without medical training, Mental Health First Aid training helps a layperson assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. With Opioid addiction on the rise, this workshop will help participants identify warning signs of overdose, risk factors of abuse, and a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources, and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social and self-help care.
